à Porta Foundation

In 1946, the lawyer and building contractor Dr. Stephan à Porta retired and transferred his 143 properties, then worth around 6.5 million Swiss francs, to his foundation, which was to continue the social character of his life's work. Since its establishment, the foundation has invested around 200 million francs in the renovation and maintenance of its properties. The provision of affordable housing is one of the goals that the à Porta Foundation has consistently pursued since its establishment. The properties are located in the city of Zurich, in the districts 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 10 (Wipkingen).

furrerhugi is co-responsible for the overall communication of the foundation and in particular in the lead of the building communication of projects (preparation of basic materials, communication with residents, neighbors, local politicians and media as well as creation of websites) like currently the one at the Eglistrasse: In the Hardquartier in Zurich, à Porta-Stiftung owns several properties from the 1930s with more than five hundred apartments of the same type. Based on a long-term renovation strategy, most of the apartments have been refurbished in recent years. At the final stage, construction of 148 new rental apartments and the Lighthouse center for palliative care and medicine began in 2020. Another construction project is the Rötelstrasse / Kornhausstrasse development in Zurich, a new housing estate with 100 apartments.
